Another Phil Anselmo Post

It's been a while since I've done a post about how hot former Pantera frontman Phil Anselmo used to be, so here's a new one. I'm sure he wouldn't be happy to hear it, but watching videos of him performing when I was a kid was probably one of the things that turned me gay... In case you never listened to the metal band Pantera, here's Exhibit A:

"Walk" - Pantera

And Exhibit B:

"This Love" - Pantera

Talk amongst yourselves.

Back in the early 90's I was stationed at Camp Pendleton and went to see Prong/Sepultura/Pantera with four other Marines. The concert was at the San Diego Sports arena and it was PACKED!
Halfway thru Sepultura's set my buddy had his arm broken while moshing. We went into the bathroom and the bone was actually STICKING OUT! Like three inches of bloody bone jutting out above his elbow!! I was like "Dude, we gotta get you to the hospital..." He looked at me like I was mental and said, "I'm not missing Pantera, asshole!"

So he actually went back into the pit and moshed all the way through Pantera's set. He said he was fine as long as he held the broken arm straight down by his side. LOL

We drove back to base and he fell asleep on the floor next to my rack---On top of everything else, he was locked out of his barracks room that night. Against my objections he didn't go to sickbay till the next morning. The fucker slept!! We wrapped his arm in a towel and he just went to sleep like it was nothing! LOL
Anyway, that's the power of Pantera--and the stupidity of Marines. By demons be driven!! LOL

I work in the heavy metal music industry now and have met the three surviving members of Pantera but have never gotten to tell any of them that story. The moment just hasn't come up. Besides, I figure they hear a million stories like that.

Sidenote: I also got to meet Dimebag before his death and what everyone says is true--he was the nicest guy in metal. Just a big clown, but sweet as can be.

He was in Damageplan by the time I met him, and still lived in Dallas. And if ANY band came through Dallas he'd show up backstage and invite everyone to some club he and Vinnie owned. I was just a roadie but he invited us roadies before he even asked the band we were working for!! I didn't go but the guys who did said they got "rockstar-vip" treatment.

Damn, thats a fucking awesome story. I never got to see them play live. Dimebag was a big influence on me when I was learning to play lead guitar. I was good, but I never got near his level of course. And over the past few years my lead playing has gone to hell.

What kind of work do you do in the music industry?

I'm a production assistant/personal assistant.

I have zero musical talent myself but have been into heavy metal since my teen years.

"one of the things that turned me gay"
Pantera may well have awakened all kinds of (understandably) erotic feelings in your young being, and helped you define yourself to yourself, but nothing and no one "turned" you. You were born gay, Pantera likely helped you celebrate your gayness, and ain't that grand!?
