Arianna Can Keep My Foreskin

I've had a problem with the "Living" section over at the Huffington Post for a while now, ever since I started noticing how the site would conflate news and legitimate analysis from my side of the political spectrum to fucking batshit insane articles supporting autism vaccine conspiracy theories, pseudo-Kabbalah bullshit, and articles about "ending death." Her "Move Your Money" campaign was partly a big scam for generating page views. But when I saw this article called, "We Need to Stop Circumcision," I figured it was time to vent about this shit in writing.

The whole article is written from the perspective that male circumcision is a human rights abuse. Maybe I'm just biased, seeing as I don't have my foreskin anymore, but I'm sick of this argument - usually from uncut guys - that sex is somehow not enjoyable if you don't have foreskin. In this case, "Visionary Pioneer" Dr. Christiane Northrup, has never even had any - well, as far as I know.

Circumcision is an unnecessary procedure that is painful and can lead to complications, including death. No organization in the world currently recommends this... Believe it or not, circumcision was introduced in English-speaking countries in the late 1800s to control or prevent masturbation, similar to the way that female circumcision--the removal of the clitoris and labia--was promoted and continues to be advocated in some Muslim and African countries to control women's sexuality.

Wait, I could have DIED from being circumcised? First of all, she's got her late-19th century medical history a bit off. In some of the research I did on Male Sexuality in Europe during that time when I was back in school, the reason I generally came across for most circumcisions back then was that it was thought to prevent syphilis. Earlier on in the 19th century, the Victorians were obsessed with keeping boys from masturbating at boarding schools, but I don't think there's any consensus on that being the reason for male circumcision becoming common medical practice in 20th Century America.

And saying that male circumcision is a form of sexual abuse on par with female circumcision is fucking irresponsible. It trivializes real sexual abuse and the real human rights crisis over female circumcision - which is done with the intent to destroy a woman's sexuality, make her subservient to men, and quite often does lead to serious medical emergencies. I can't remember being traumatized by circumcision, or would she have me think I've just repressed the memory because it was too painful..? And is she trying to say I don't really own my sexuality, because some doctors ruined it for me?

Anyway, it's anti-feminist and delegitimizes a real human rights crisis. I don't like this kind of pointless cause and others like the vaccine people (who are the birthers of the left, as far as I'm concerned) getting the same webspace and press as important political causes I care about. Not to mention that Arianna Huffington's site is garbage for other reasons. Scott over at Bill in Exile did a great post the other day on why he de-linked her from his site, which you can read here. I never had her linked, so I can't de-link her myself, but to any readers who have her linked and care about things like social justice, PAYING YOUR WRITERS, feminism (in the first and the third worlds), and journalistic and academic oversight, I'd recommend doing the same.

The issue is about consent or lack of it. If you were not cut at birth then you might decide after having tried out foreskin for 18 years that you would rather be cut. You could go to a clinic and get circumcised. The point is that if you were cut the choice to be cut or uncut was taken away by some ignorant nurse. It isn't about who has the better orgasms, it is about the choice to own your body and decide what happens to it.

THANK YOU! I posted something similar on my blog a while back. My whole point was that I'm sick of being told I'm mutilated, by people who are not even circumcised, or worse yet, don't even HAVE A PENIS.

There is no doubt that you want validation for your mutilated member. I have had sex with thousands of men in my lifetime (I am old) and had my share of both cut and uncut. I have found from my own experience that those who are cut need all kinds of help from lubricants, their sensitivity is not as keen and the sex in general has been boring. Not all but most.
But I seriously question the need to have a baby go through the pain and all because the doctors want some extra dough.

Also, when my first daughter was born the doctor wanted to circumcise if it was a boy. I was opposed. It was a girl and the issue never became important. But in the bed next to my ex-wife was a woman who gave birth to a beautiful baby boy who had the procedure done. They didn't know at the time he had Billierubin and almost hemorrhaged to death. Result: he suffered severe brain damage. Was it necessary to comply with the "norm"? Even on religious grounds I think it is a way of religion to control our sex lives as cut males have less fun during sex.

mascudde i liked this article a lot! i was circumxized in my bris (my first and last jewish ceremony lol) and i have to say yes of course we 'cut men' lol feel a little less in our peeps, but look we last LONGER!!! also, our dicks look like real fucing things and our orgasms, according to some study, are MORE intense than those dick-cheese losers who suddenly want validation for their disgusting smegmacocks with these bullshit campgains. remember hoop from arrested dvelopment lol?? hahha

in conclusions, suck my dick raulito. hahahhaha

also, and this is in my experience, it's not the circumscion that may make sex less fun but the person you're having it with. solution: find the girl or guy who is compatible and go nuts!! and circusmzeies shafts lol haha lol

Circumcision performed on children is rape.
No one, not a parent or a physician, should
be allowed to make a decision to mutilate a
child's body.
Would you pierce or tattoo a little child?
Why are people so obsessed with little
boys' penises?
Leave them alone.

Well, I guess that makes me a rape victim then! A child rape victim... maybe that's what made me gay, too!

Lynn, sweetie, I bring up the issue because people like you like are talking about ME, and calling me a victim of sexual abuse. It's not something to take lightly. The question I have for you is, why are YOU so obsessed with little boys' penises?

There are some valid reasons for circumcision - most have been mentioned. still, I wish I had been given a choice. I like my penis a lot and I sure as hell wouldn't have chosen to chop off a chunk. I agree with Matt, wait until the kid is mature enough to make that decision. I have not allowed family or friends to pierce my 5 year old daughter's ears. Several really want to for some reason. I understand this isn't the same as cuting off part of a kid's penis, but it is a decision about her body. I think parents should remember that childrens bodies belong to them.
I certainly wasn't raped as one comment stated, nor do I have issues with my parents. However, I can hardly see how waiting until a child can take part in the decision would harm anyone.
